Spray Foam saves a Metal Roof Nightmare
While metal roofs can be great roofs - sometimes, they just need a little help... So, that's what we did
This metal roof has a high standing metal seam. While the roof metal was in good shape, the 16" panels allowed for a lot of movement. The slope was low and the gutter was a problem. Pipes and penetrations were causing problems in the roof too, as you can see evidenced by the rubber roofers who tried to fix the problem by gluing down rubber around these penetrations and down into the actual drain. Unfortunately, there were still problems with the roof. Spray foam was the answer b/c it could totally get rid of the seams, strengthen the metal pans, it quieted down the roof (a bonus), and made the whole roof one unified roof.
Using a technique called "half lapping" we were able to make the roof look really good along with making sure that the seams were fully protected on both sides. This becomes difficult to do with such high ridges. We then applied Conklin's Benchmark base and top coat over the entire roof to complete this roof with a bright white, 85% reflectivity roofing system that has wonderful durability and dirt resistance.
